There is much fun to be had with Disneyland’s Get Your Ears On celebration! We were so excited for the Soundsational Parade to come back for the celebration, and we love Mickey’s Mix Magic way more than we expected to. It’s practically impossible not to dance when that music gets going! One of the highlights of the celebration though, has to be the treats! There are so many celebration eats at Disneyland and California Adventure, and you better believe we are going to try as many as possible before they are gone! We will continue to update this post with our thoughts as we go.
Sweet Treats
Not only is this Mickey Mouse Club House Dessert from the Jolly Holiday ridiculously cute, it’s ridiculously tasty as well! It is a chocolate truffle mousse dome with a vanilla bean crème brûlée center, with chocolate disc ears and a chocolate Mickey Mouse Club logo. This one is definitely one of our top three treats of Get Your Ears On, so it’s no surprise that we give it a 10/10.
We can be hit or miss with macarons, but we really liked this adorable Mickey Mouse Macaron from the Jolly Holiday. It may not be an official Get Your Ears On treat, but is sure has the celebration vibe so we are including it in our review. It has a vanilla buttercream center, surrounded by a thick chocolate ganache. We give this one an 8/10.
We already loved the Monkey Bread from River Belle Terrace, so when we heard they had a Cookie Butter Monkey Bread we knew it had to be one of our first treats of the celebration! Buttery Monkey Bread is topped with vanilla ice cream and two cookie butter cookies, then drizzled with cookie butter. This one is honestly one of the best desserts we have ever had at Disneyland. It’s another of our top three Get Your Ears On treats and easily gets a 10/10 from us.
There’s a reason we chose this dessert to be the top picture of this post, the Mickey Chocolate Cup and Brownie from Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Cafe is SO delicious! It may be Kari’s number one treat of Get Your Ears On so far, and it’s definitely in our top 3. Not only is the Mickey-shaped brownie covered in a chocolate shell, but there is a chocolate cup sitting on top of the brownie with a cookies and cream mousse inside. We are chocolate lovers, so it’s no surprise that we loved this one, and even took a few extras home with us. 😂 We give this one a 10/10.
The Mickey Hat Dessert from Rancho del Zocalo is a mango mousse dome with a churro crunch filling and a mango glaze. And how cute are the little striped chocolate discs for the ears! We are churro fans, and a little mango sounded delicious, so we knew we needed to try this one. To be honest, we really only tasted the mango when we tried the glaze on its own, but the dessert as a whole was still delicious so we aren’t taking off any points for that. We give this one a 9/10.
The Mickey Cake Pop can be found at Trolley Treats, but we picked up ours at Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff on Pixar Pier. We’re not sure it gets cuter than Mickey with a bow tie and party hat! It’s definitely bigger than the usual cake pops, and if you are a vanilla cake pop fan this one is for you. We are more partial to the chocolate cake pops, so don’t read too much into the fact that this one gets a 7/10 with us.
The Caramel Corn Churro from Willie’s Churros is a really fun option. We really liked the caramel corn, but the highlight for us was actually the caramel drizzle. We think the caramel drizzle is a better caramel than the caramel dip you can buy with some of the churros elsewhere around the parks. We went back and bought another churro and asked them to leave off the popcorn and it was even better in our opinion! As a Caramel Corn Churro we give this one an 8/10, but with a thick caramel drizzle alone, this one is a 10/10 for us.
We love a maple bacon donut, so we were excited to try the Maple Bacon Churro from the Churros near Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. We really loved this mix of sweet and savory and give this one an 8/10.
The Birthday Cake Mickey Beignets at Cafe Orleans are definitely adorable, who wouldn’t love the Mickey glove beignets? We have to say we were a little bit confused by the description of this one so it wasn’t quite what we were expecting. The description was chocolate-coffee cake and white cake donuts, which is accurate, but we read it as chocolate-flavored “coffee cake.” It is actually a chocolate and coffee mix that is sprinkled on top of the beignet. Still tasty, but not what we were hoping for. We did like the fruity dip though, and we would give the treat as a whole a 7/10.
Kari’s husband is a sucker for all things butterscotch, so the Butterscotch Beignets from the Mint Julep Bar were definitely an important item on our list. 😂 Luckily for us, they did not disappoint! They had just the right amount of butterscotch flavor, and are even better than the original in our opinion! They get a 9/10 from us.
The Mickey Cookies ‘n Cream Shake is adorable and tasty for sure, but we wish it had been a little bit thicker! It was so runny and drippy from the second they handed it over to us. The taste was definitely there, but it didn’t really make it to the thickness of a shake for us. If it had, we think this one could have been a 10/10. Keep in mind, the lack of thickness didn’t stop our kids from downing this one! 😂 It’s still a delicious choice, so we give this one an 8/10.
We really want to love funnel cake fries, we know a lot of people do! But so far they just really aren’t our thing. They taste fine, don’t get us wrong, but they just aren’t a treat we crave so far. As funnel cake fries go, the “Get Your Ears On” Funnel Cake Fries are a solid choice, we really liked all the cookies and cream flavors. We would give them a 6/10.
Savory Eats
We are fans of the bread cones at the Cozy Cone motel, so we are always eager to try the seasonal offerings there. This time around it is the Fiesta Cone, and it definitely did not fail to please! The Fiesta Cone has spicy ground beef, beans, lettuce, cheese sauce, sour cream, Pico de Gallo and crispy tortilla chips. It’s definitely a comfort food, but the Pico de Gallo and lettuce kept it feeling fresh! This one is an 8/10 for us.
The Fried Chicken and Beignets from Cafe Orleans sounded fun, so we thought we would give them a try. It’s a buffalo-tossed fried chicken, with an herb bacon coleslaw, on vanilla cake and “chocolate-coffee” cake beignets. We thought the coleslaw and buffalo sauce worked well together, and we liked the sweet and savory vibe with the beignets. The waffle fries were probably our favorite part of the meal, they were really tasty. With a mint julep on the side you can’t go wrong with this one. We give it an 8/10.
The Spectacular Mickey Pizza from Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta is probably the cutest slice of pizza we have ever eaten. The pizza is pretty good, but the pizza sauce at Disney is not our favorite, so we have to give this one an 7/10.
We are definitely fans of grilled cheese sandwiches, so we were excited to try the Specialty Toasted Cheese Sandwich at the Jolly Holiday. It has Swiss, Jack and Fiscalini cheddar cheese, pancetta and a blackberry jam on the side. We thought the three cheeses were fun, and definitely liked the pancetta, but we don’t think it quite lived up to the classic grilled cheese sandwich from the Jolly Holiday. The blackberry jam was tasty, but not as satisfying as the Jolly Holiday tomato soup. If we ordered this one again, we would definitely order a side of the soup as well. As is, we would give it a 7/10.
We had high expectations for A Cheesy Celebration dog at Award Weiners. It’s a cheddar sausage link covered in mac and cheese, salsa verde, crushed spicy cheese puffs, pickled jalapeños, and cheese curds. We are sad to say it didn’t quite live up to our expectations. The toppings were everything we were looking for (other than we prefer fresh jalapeños to pickled), but we thought the cheddar sausage link was a little too bland for all that cheesiness piled on top. We think the whole thing would have been better on one of their spicy hot dogs, where the flavor of the hot dog could really stand up to all of the toppings. We do love their filmstrip fries though, and their Spicy City Dog is always a good choice. We give A Cheesy Celebration a 6/10.
